And to be perfectly honest, I think the next crazy thing an FF7 retranslation team would undertake would be FF9PC.
I must be stopped ._.
unfortunately the biggest thing FF8 PC has over emulated FF8 for playstation is the higher resolution versions of the CG cutscenes, unfortunately us fans have no access to the original CG cutscenes of FF9 so a higher resolution build would not be that different from playing it in ePSXe

Seeing the character models in higher resolutions without vertices matching up to a 320x240 grid is totally worth it Granted, the jaggedy lo-res backgrounds won’t be made all magically better, but it’s the thought that counts.

While the VWF hack is certainly nice, you have run into the classic problem that the script needs to be reformatted to look good again. The intro is all mushed to the left. I'm not so sure simply shrinking the text box is a very elegant fix for the main dialog either. That would be a very narrow, abnormal looking text box. It is a quick fix, but I think to do it 'right', it really needs reformatting. \

How visible would such a font be on a TV set?

The hack is meant to give the game a vwf, nothing less, nothing more. It will be released soon to public as a standalone patch, altering no dialogues or menu stuff at all. The purpose of this is to be used in other hacks. How visible would such a font be on a TV set? Completely. EDIT: All bugs that we were aware of are gone. I'm doing a mini-testing myself on my PSP now. It'll be released as soon as I'm satisfied. :p

If you either 1) speed up the text display, 2) add a hack that lets the user speed up text display, or 3) add a button that makes the text display instantly, I might actually play this.

I'd love to see FF9 PC happen, but I doubt it ever will more likely to see an entire remake, and that won't happen until they crank through the rest of them

That's true - I can always count on SE to remake every FF game in existence at least once - except FF7

Some hacks don't seem to work on my Psp for some reason, and they all related with dialogue cursors (the arrow appearing at the end of each sentence in battle and the choice cursor). And speaking of stuff that doesn't work correct, does anybody remember some white lines appearing when you rapidly switch from one character's equipment to another? If you either 1) speed up the text display, 2) add a hack that lets the user speed up text display, or 3) add a button that makes the text display instantly, I might actually play this.
Then you probably won't play this.

How hard would it be to make a text speed up hack, anyway?

There are even some dialogues already sped up in the game, so I think it wouldn't be so difficult.

My thoughts would also come into play if there was also a way to add ASM Code to use a different font set, and I am sure it is not that hard, as long as the code would be tied to the same same table file, but that is just some back thoughts on that.
