Hi, I am new to this forum and I hope some of you can help me with a problem I have been having.

I always wanted to play as Zero in MMX1. So I figured, maybe there is a way to hack the game and edit Megaman to look exactly like Zero.
So I did some research and came across Tile Layer pro 11.

After loading up TLP, I began editing right away.
But I ran into a problem, Zero is taller than MMX. When I finished editing MMX to look like Zero, he was way too short!

So this leads to my question:  How do you increase the tile area around the sprite so that I can make Zero the proper height?

Any help here will be appreciated.

Why don't you just completely replace Zero with X and not deal with the editing part?  Course then you need to fix Zero up.

I didn't think Zero was tall until the later installments.

No, Zero stands upright in X1 and X2 but stands in a battle pose like X in X3. Dunno if it'd still work, but you'd at least have more frames to work with.

On a side note, you'd also need to hack X's palette, which is something you can't do directly in TLP.

Here is what I am talking about:

See, he is too short.
Also, You notice that he doesn't have a ponytail.

What do you mean? I don't want to replace Zero....I want to edit X to look like Zero.

I think what he's saying is this...

Why not rip the Zero sprite from another game, and replace the X sprite with it? or is that what you've already done?

I would like to do that but, there is not enough room in the tile boxes for Zero to fit.

How do I increase the size of the editing area?

You usually can't without ASM hacks, I believe.

What is an "ASM" Hack?

ASM means "assembly code". Basically just one step removed from pure machine code, the stuff a processor understands. It's not really a programming language per se, since one processor's machine code is another processor's gibberish, but they all do the same things in similar ways, so knowledge of ASM for one processor can be readily adapted to learning ASM for another.

In other words: you can't do it without getting into the guts of the game program itself and doing some rewiring. And being able to do that competently takes a fair bit of experience.

Wow, I didn't realize it required all that.....Thank you for the info.

I'll try to do the best I can with what I have already:

ya know what, X in zeros suit looks pretty kickass all by itself.

I'm tempted to request a patch with it just like that so i could play as X who stole Zeros armor and repainted it lol.

That actually looks pretty good, you can hack to armor to make him update to his X2+ look Cheesy

Do you know how to hack SNES palettes? It shouldn't be too hard to change his palette to match Zero's (Will you be changing Zero into X as well?).

Update:

As for changing Zero into X... I can't seem to find Zero's sprites in TILE LAyer Pro. Sad

Okay, I have created a patch so that you can use Megaman in Zero's Armor.

Its only 70% done and I don't know if I will finish it.
Note: When you get the Helmet, Buster, or Armor upgrade,
Zero turns back into X.

If anyone  can hack the game so that I could add the ponytail and
increase the character height, that would be awesome.

Anyway, I always wanted to use Zero in MMX and this is as close as I can do.

Let me know if you have a problem downloading the ips patch.
Note: The patch is for MegamanX V.1.1

Enjoy.
