This might be a dumb question but i am wondering what is a complete hack,

And what has to be changed in a hack in order for it to be added to the romhacking.net database,

I for one have made several hacks over the last 5 or so years many of them are incomplete even by my own standards.

However a few of them I consider to be complete because I am done with them. Really what I would like to know is what the standards are

For a hack to be add to the romhacking .net database. I think it should be are goal to get the best hacks database there is.

I have looked over the hacks already in the database and they are all awesome hacks better then any other database I know of anyway.

From what I understand, "complete" means that at least one aspect of the game has been entirely altered. These could be
  • Graphics
  • Sound
  • Levels
  • Script
  • And probably other things...

When you play a "complete" hack it should feel like a brand new game.

It must be a final version, no work in progress or unfinished hacks.

hippiejake got it right.

The term 'Complete' used here refers to the fact that something in the game was altered completely throughout the entire game.

If you do a graphics hack, we expect that you have changed most or all of the graphics throughout the entire game.
If you do a level hack, we expect to see that all the levels in the game have been altered.

Etc.. I think you probably get the picture now.

We don't want incomplete hacks or buggy work in progress hacks or anything of that nature. Only complete hacks.

Of course an Improvement hack is a different category and we except much smaller hacks there. That's where more minor hacks go that try to improve upon or build upon the original game rather than hack it into something new.

I will try and see about adding this information somewhere. I'm sure it's a bit ambiguous to other people as well. You're not the first person to question what we're looking for.

Yes I get the picture now thanks to all for the clarifications.
