Hello People! I just started this whole ROM Modding thing and need some helpful hints with everybodies favorite beginner hack, MARIO! I've seen some very interesting changes with SMB and I was wondering just how would one make the Question Blocks look like they're spinning? I figure you'd have to increase the ROM size and change the sprites, but how? HOW!?!?!

How would I get started doing ASM work? Any good beginner tutorials on game specific. I admire DahrkDaiz's Mario Seasons and I'd like to do something like that. HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Some of these might be useful. I'd start with "Text Routines...". The first paragraph has links to some worthwhile docs to read.

Way to go.. You just: 1. Used up everybody else's board attachment space. 2. Caused me to now restrict allowed file extensions for board attachments for everyone to prevent inconsiderate people like yourself from doing this in the future. BMP files are NOT Allowed on RHDN. They shouldn't be allowed on the Internet either, but I don't have control over that. They unnecessarily hog up our bandwidth, our server space, causes unnecessary internet congestion, and uses other members board attachment space. Please be more considerate of others. No, there is currently no option or mod for this, nor anything helpful on the SMF forums. I'm surprised this option does not exist. We could certainly use it. However, then you would probably STILL run into problems. Maybe I understand why it's not there.
We have 950 members. Say everyone was given just 250K of space. That's 950X250K=237500K or 238megs!!! If you don't allocate that much, it's still possible for it to be filled, yet people who haven't uploading anything will be denied because the folder is filed.
So, the only thing that would actually be useful is to have a limit per user to prevent abuse from one user, but it doesn't garuntee any space.

Sigh...
Don't get discouraged, Kiba! This is (unfortunately) the sort of thing newbie ROM hackers run into from time to time: a complete lack of patience and decorum from established members of the scene. There seems to be an inverse relationship between ROM hacking talent and basic manners, which is an infinite shame.
The most important lesson for beginners is to not let anyone get you down. Keep hacking, keep learning, and keep coming up with new ideas!

It's not a matter of ROM hacking talent, but of patience. When you're on a messageboard that has a constant stream of newbies, their general "newbieness" may eat up your patience until you need a break. I've seen it on other boards, and it applies to RHDN to some degree. basic manners

Dr. Floppy, I completely disagree with you.
NightCrawler runs this site. It's HIS, and he's the one who has to make sure that everything runs smoothly. Given that, I think that the fact that he a: gave a detailed explanation as to why the pictures were deleted, b: Merely asked for the user to be more considerate of others instead of giving a harsher punishment, and c: had the courtesy to actually write ANYTHING at all, when he didn't have to, is proof of NightCrawler's patience and manners.
I think that, given the level of stress of running this site, NightCrawler has on a daily basis shown an immense level of professionalism, courtesy and patience. To insult him by saying he lacks "basic manners" is actually rather rude, in and of itself.
I think you owe NC an apology.

It's hard not to let one's rudeness discourge you and to be quite honest I was really interest in this whole scene, but for Christ's sake, I asked for help about what I would assume would be like a simple subject for an experienced....um...person in this field to help me out with. Instead I get discourging remarks and taunts and what started out as something very easy turns into something for you guys to laugh at. I never got any kind of straight forward answer and I don't understand how to do ASM crap..so screw you guys I'm going to get laid and smoke weed!!!
