I always felt this game got butchered in the localization area(the script was bad, the voice acting is the WORST I have heard, and quite a few bad cases of spelling errors). So, I would like to see this game get the treatment it deserved, only my skills are pretty basic. This is not a request, more like an idea.

So, what do you think?

A retranslation, as far as I am aware, is not going to save this game; the gameplay is just that horrid.

You also didn't post in the thread earmarked for translation requests.

Nope. I loved it. I thought the Addition system was excellent once I got the hang of it, I enjoyed the story, and it had a refreshing difficulty level. The script was poorly localized, but I haven't played the Japanese version so I can't speak to the actual quality of the translation. The music was also excellent, and the FMVs and water were the best on the PSX up to that point. Overall it was a damn fine game.

I played a lengthy demo of it once, and rather liked the gameplay. if the localization was SNK-like, maybe it deserves a retranslation.

Legend of Dragoon is one of those hate/love games. Every opinion I've heard of the game is one extreme or the other.

It sounds like part of the idea is to redo the voices. There was a topic a while back about what people thought about redubbing games, and the result was that redubbing a game isn't worth it in terms of work to get the new voices inserted when no matter how the dubbing is, people will always hate it. Add that to the increased file size of the patch to include the new voices...

And on the subject of voice acting, people need to watch the Transformers Masterforce dub before they should be able to knock other dubs. That thing takes first, second, and third place for worst dub ever  Cry

In the future, if you think something is in the wrong place or needs attention on the forums, please use the "report to moderator" link.  A situation like this is one of the reasons why it's there in the first place.

That being said, I saw this thread earlier (i.e.: before your post) and decided to leave it be, since it specifically asks for feedback on the idea/game and does not just suggest a re-translation and leave it at that.

Yeah, I felt this thread was more of a "Do you think it'd be a good idea to do so?" thread... I thought the original poster was maybe thinking of doing it him/herself, on the long run, since he/she said his/her skills were basic. So it's fine.

So cut it out, Aerdan. Jeez. You just got back. Tongue

Maybe that's worth a sticky in the translation hacking board?

MMJuno, Kitsune Sniper: Yes, I should totally not tell users they're posting in the wrong forum. Totally. :p

To be fair, this thread still belongs in Gaming Discussion, since it's asking if a translation is feasible.

Wow, somebody else who knows about Masterforce. O_O

Worst dub ever is Vampire Hunter D, BTW.

It's a question pertaining to the possibility of hacking a game to change its contents to improve upon it, and if it's feasible to do so. It belongs in this forum.

And cut the attitude already. I'm being civil here, and your snarky replies are not helping your case.

Edit:
And if you want bad voice acting, go see the Patlabor TV series and listen to Noa Izumi. Everything about the dub is pretty good except for her. I almost snapped my DVD collection because of her.

I find that a dub being worse than Masterforce is a hard pill to swallow. It sounds like there was only one person doing the voices, and using the same voice for every character. And the names... oh god the names... I'm betting they just grabbed random common English names for Blur (aka Wally) and Cerebros (aka Phillip). Blaster and Spike at least got somewhat related names (Billy and... Sparkle... respectively)

Plain and simple: You are not a moderator.  We had already decided it was fine where it was, I asked you to take a different action in the future, and Kitsune backed up my decision.  Frankly speaking, if you can't respect that, it's not our problem.  I'm asking you to please drop this.

OK.. I think point has been made here. We don't need any further Aerdan talk.

Back on topic:

I really enjoyed Legend of Dragoon. Sure, the script could use a little work and voice acting was not the greatest, but I guess I am more tolerant to faults like that unless it's as horrible as Breath of Fire 2.

But yeah, I enjoyed the game very much. Not so much, that I'd do a retranslation since I generally would rather see new releases rather than retranslated/rehashed older ones. I agree with the re-dubbing opinion. That just never turns out well. No matter what you do, people will always hate your dubbing. Besides, if you're not hiring professional actors, why would your dub be any better than the original?
