The 100 Deaths of Cartio - 003
Cartio awoke on a bench. He sat up and checked himself out.
Dirty
clothes...worse stench than usual...no shoes...hmm...and what's this cup
for? No sooner then he had mentioned it, someone dropped a few coins
into his cup. Upon examination, he noticed quite a lot of change in his
cup. Cartio held out his cup and examined the area.
It's like some
kind of cave. Just then, a subway train pulled in and people flooded
off towards Cartio, towards the exit. The change started to pour in. A
quarter here. A dime there. A few pennies over here. The change flow continued
until one man came out of the train, approached Cartio, quickly grabbed
the cup, and ran.
"Hey!" yelled
Cartio.
The man gave no reply,
not even a head turn.
"Come back here!"
Cartio proceeded to follow the man. He ran up the stairs and into the
street. Cartio stopped for a second, being a bit shocked by all of the
tall buildings. He got control of himself and saw the man in the distance.
He ran full force towards the man. He bobbed-and-weeved his way through
a seemingly endless maze of people until he ran into a rather large man
dressed in uniform.
"What's the big rush,
buddy?" said the officer in the usual ' i'm a god and your a sniveling
little peasant ' tone of voice.
"That man up there
stole my money!" replied Cartio.
The officer looked Cartio up and down.
"Riiiiight. And
tell me, sir, just how much did he take from you?"
"There was a lot
there, I couldn't count it."
"Oh, that much, eh?"
Blast...the thief is
long gone by now.
The officer gave a last look at Cartio, chuckled a bit, and left. Unbeknownst
to him, though, Cartio followed with stealth right behind him.
I'm
getting some money back, with or without that cup. Cartio nicked the
officer's wallet and ran quickly the other way. The officer, though, heard
him running, noticed his wallet was missing, and chased after him.
The two raced down the street, knocking people over left and right. They
eventually ran back down into the subway. Cartio, now trapped, decided
to run down through the tunnels on foot. He didn't realize, however, that
the third rail carries quite an electrical current. As Cartio felt his
innards burning, he also discovered that his knowledge of the subway schedule
was poor as well. When the train hit him, he felt, yet again, most of
the bones in his body break and pierce his already tender and toasted
entrails. Of course, most of this happened in mere seconds and all faded
to black once again.
