So school is started. My class load isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it's still a bit annoying. I guess it's kind of hard to not be annoyed by a 4-hour class that actually goes on for 4 hours. I still have to buy a textbook for my Software Engineering class, but so far books have cost me $195.00. Freaking books.

In a slightly-more-than-lazy attempt to exercise, I've been taking the stairs instead of the elevator when going to my classes. Going down the stairs is fine. Actually, it's usually better than the elevator. Since everyone leaves for class at about the same time, the small elevator usually has no less than 12 people on it before it goes into over-load mode and goes directly to the first floor. I'm not really a fan of physical contact. So, being crowded in an elevator is a rather bad way for me to start my day. The stairwell is nearly always empty. I've seen about 3 other people in there in a week's time. I have no problem at all with this. I love solitude. It also gives me time to get my mp3 player situated and zip-up my coat (the metal dealy at the end fell off, so there's a bit of an art to getting it started). It kinda reminds me of some arcade shooters, where the spaceship/jet/craft thing is blasting out of some kind of loading bay, and then flies out into the sky at alarming speed.....do realize that this occurs about 30 minutes after I wake up; it takes me at least an hour to sharpen that line between videogames and reality in the morning. Anyway, walking down 9 flights of stairs is a good thing.

And then there's the trek back up. First realize that I get back to the stairwell after walking the 'quarter mile' (which is actually closer to half a mile). So that's 8-10 minutes of walking, which is a lot when you're as lazy as I am. I don't actually mind walking, I just get disappointed when I stop and I'm back to the same place again. Meh. Getting back, there's nine stories for me to climb. I take no time to get started. No deep breath or anything. It's not that much work. So, I start going up. Stairs have a sort of hypnotic quality to them. I've always kinda wanted to take the stairs up some humongously tall building (alone, of course), just to see what would happen. Anyway, little clips of all sorts of phrases and tv shows and video games go through my head. A lot of them. It's sorta like sensory deprivation. Before I know it, I'm on the sixth floor or so. At this point, I always think to myself, "hey, i'm not out of breath. cool." By the time I reach the seventh floor, I'm thinking, "gah. out of breath." At this point, I usually unzip my jacket and continue to the eighth floor. The eighth floor is creepy, since it's the only floor that isn't really vandalized that much. The door is in like mint condition. It's creepy. Just this gray door with a white number '8' on it. Then, it's just one more floor, and I'm back to my room, where I declare, "stupid stairs!" I then proceed to sit down and turn on my fan.

In summary, the stairs are pretty cool, but stupid. If it's an option for you, try it out sometime. Just stay out of my stairwell, or it'll ruin the whole thing. It's the indie way.

In site news, I added some link buttons in case you want to link back to me with a button of ph33rsome power. In the works is a music section of some kind (hah! like it'll really happen this time). Also, I'm gonna write some kind of cookie that will keep track of your name/email etc for the guestbook and comments. This way you won't have to keep writing them in every time.

Meh.
